Social Group: Emotions Through Art

A 6 week course on exploring and learn how to deal with emotions through expressive art.

Service Description

Ages 6+ Group Size: Small-group format (6โ€“10 kids), with 2 adults (1 lead, 1 support). One-on-one support available if needed. Accessibility: Open to kids of all abilities and learning styles. We use AAC, visuals, sensory supports, and flexible approaches so everyone can participate. ๐ŸŒŸ Weekly Flow: What Each Session Looks Like We follow a consistent, sensory-friendly structure each week so kids feel safe, know what to expect, and stay engaged: Welcome & Regulation (10 min) ๐Ÿง˜ We start with a visual schedule and a calming sensory activity (like breathing bubbles or fidget play). Emotion of the Week (10 min) ๐Ÿง  We introduce one emotion using visuals, stories, and discussion. ๐Ÿ’ฌ Kids learn what the emotion feels like, when it might show up, and how to express it safely. Weekly Themes: Week 1: Annoyed Week 2: Concerned Week 3: Fearful Week 4: Stressed Week 5: Disappointed Week 6: Lonely Art Creation Time (45 min) ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ Each child creates an art piece inspired by the emotion of the week. ๐Ÿงฉ We use mixed media (paint, collage, clay, etc.) to encourage sensory exploration and creativity. Sharing & Reflection (10 min) ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Kids are invited (but never required) to share their artwork and talk about their process. ๐ŸŒˆ We use visual prompts and emotion cards to support expressive language. Clean-Up & Transition (10 min) ๐Ÿงผ Kids help tidy their space using visual clean-up cues. ๐Ÿง  Why Parents Love It: Emotionally enriching: Kids learn to name, understand, and express their feelings. Inclusive: Designed for speaking and non-speaking children, with supports for all communication styles. Creative & calming: Art becomes a tool for regulation, expression, and connection. Cancellation Policy

Watermelon Sessions main goal is to create positive experience for our students. Whether itโ€™s a class, playdate or outing โ€“ we want to see the best outcome and happiness. We understand the unpredictable nature of our students and we are here to accommodate all the needs. However, since our groups are โ€œhand pickedโ€ and we do our best to invite students with the same interests and needs, we have to put a lot of care and effort into our scheduling. If you need to cancel, please give us a 48h notice. Between 24 and 48 hours notice you will be charged at a 50% rate. Less than 24 hours notice or no attendance at all, you will be charged the full amount. Verbal or written notice that your child will be attending the class is considered to be an official reservation. Last minute โ€œdrop inโ€ is available if we are notified 2 h prior. We appreciate your understanding and compliance.
