with others? That’s exactly why Social Hangouts was created!
Ages 6+
Group Size: Small-group format (6–10 kids), with 2 adults (1 lead, 1 support).
One-on-one support available if needed.
Accessibility: Open to kids of all abilities and learning styles. We use AAC, visuals, sensory supports, and flexible approaches so everyone can participate.
🌟 Weekly Flow: What Each Session Looks Like We follow a consistent, sensory-friendly structure each week so kids feel safe, know what to expect, and stay engaged: Welcome & Regulation (10 min)
🧘 We start with a visual schedule and a calming sensory activity (like breathing bubbles or fidget play). Emotion of the Week (10 min)
🧠 We introduce one emotion using visuals, stories, and discussion.
💬 Kids learn what the emotion feels like, when it might show up, and how to express it safely.
Weekly Themes: Week 1: Annoyed Week 2: Concerned Week 3: Fearful Week 4: Stressed Week 5: Disappointed Week 6: Lonely Art Creation Time (45 min) 🖌️ Each child creates an art piece inspired by the emotion of the week.
🧩 We use mixed media (paint, collage, clay, etc.) to encourage sensory exploration and creativity. Sharing & Reflection (10 min) 🗣️ Kids are invited (but never required) to share their artwork and talk about their process. 🌈 We use visual prompts and emotion cards to support expressive language. Clean-Up & Transition (10 min) 🧼 Kids help tidy their space using visual clean-up cues. 🧠 Why Parents Love It: Emotionally enriching: Kids learn to name, understand, and express their feelings. Inclusive: Designed for speaking and non-speaking children, with supports for all communication styles. Creative & calming: Art becomes a tool for regulation, expression, and connection. Practical: Builds emotional intelligence and self-awareness in a playful, accessible way.
