This spring, Watermelon Sessions invites children and families to join us for joyful, sensory‑friendly play in the community. Classic games like

Freeze Tag,
Dodge Ball,
Red Light/Green Light,
Simon Says,
Mirror Movement,
Musical Chairs

are re‑imagined to celebrate neurodiversity, creativity, and connection.

💡 Our Approach

We design every session with care so children can participate in ways that feel safe, fun, and authentic:

Understand each child’s sensory & social profile: We observe first, and provide supports like quiet zones, headphones, or weighted vests when helpful.
Break games into predictable steps: Visual schedules, role cards, and practice rounds make transitions smooth and stress‑free.
Relationship‑based invitations: Facilitators play alongside children, following their lead and celebrating their ideas.
Flexible rules for success: Cooperative goals, slower pacing, and opt‑out roles ensure everyone has a way to join in.
Creativity at the center: Favorite themes (dinosaurs, space, trains) are woven into play, and children are encouraged to invent new rules.
Celebrate autonomy & connection: Watching, helping, or cheering are all valid ways to participate. Every session ends with a predictable closing ritual to foster calm and belonging.

🌈 Why This Program

We’ve noticed that many children want to join playground games with their peers, but not fully understanding the rules of simple games can make it hard to engage. This program was created to teach those basic game rules at each child’s own pace, boosting confidence and opening doors to easier friendships and shared play.
