Fine Motor & Pre-Writing Group for Ages 3–5
Supporting smoother transitions into preschool and kindergarten
Small group • 5 children • 1-hour sessions
Building Little Hands for Big Milestones
Tiny Hands Studio is a playful, sensory-rich program designed to strengthen the foundations children
need for confident early writing, everyday hand skills, and smoother transitions into more structured
environments like preschool and kindergarten.
What This Program Is About
In this studio space, children explore tools, textures, and creative materials that naturally support:
• fine motor strength
• grasp development
• hand-eye coordination
• early mark-making
At the same time, children begin to gently practice important everyday routines such as:
• putting away their shoes and jackets
• moving between activities
• following a simple, predictable routine
All in a way that feels playful, supported, and never pressured.
Rather than worksheets, we offer open-ended invitations to create, build, squeeze, scoop, tear, paint,
and experiment— all the meaningful “behind-the-scenes” work that prepares little hands for future
writing.
Skills Supported Through Play
Through creative exploration and guided support, children strengthen the foundational skills needed
for both daily routines and early learning.
Key areas include:
• developing fine motor strength and coordination
• improving grasp and control of tools (crayons, markers, scissors)
• building hand-eye coordination
• exploring early drawing and mark-making
• growing confidence using their hands with purpose
Children also begin to feel more comfortable with:
• simple routines and transitions
• short group moments (like circle time)
• participating in a structured but gentle environment

Our Approach
Our approach is gentle, play-based, and developmentally aligned, inspired by the DIR®/Floortime
approach.
We follow each child’s lead, interests, and pace, supporting both motor development and emotional
regulation.
Children move between activity stations, explore freely, and are supported in joining shared moments
when they are ready. Facilitators provide warm, attuned guidance, helping children feel safe, capable,
and engaged.
Because strong skills — both motor and social — grow best through connection, play, and repetition.
What a Session Looks Like
Each session includes a balance of play, routine, and gentle structure, helping children feel secure
and confident.
Fine Motor & Exploration:
• Painting, drawing, and creative art
• Cutting, tearing, and crafting
• Playdough, squeezing, and building strength
• Scooping and pouring
• Hands-on play with tools and materials
Routine & Readiness:
• following a simple, predictable schedule
• moving between activities with guidance
• participating in a short, relaxed circle time
• Practicing putting away belongings
Why Small Groups Matter
With just 5 children, we can:
• provide individualized support
• adapt activities to each child’s level
• create a calm, focused environment
This allows children to practice, repeat, and succeed with confidence.
Why 1 Hour?
One hour is the ideal length for this age — enough time to explore, practice, and engage without
becoming overwhelmed.
Children benefit most from short, meaningful, hands-on experiences.
